As team sponsor and to mark this summer’s World Cup triumph
- The Company has taken advantage of the Spanish football team’s presence in Salamanca for tomorrow’s European Championship qualifying match against Lithuania to renew its sponsorship until the end of the Euro 2012 finals

IBERDROLA, the sponsor of the Spanish national football team, today paid homage in Salamanca to the 23 players that made up the squad in the World Cup in South Africa this summer, and whose dazzling play made them world champions.
Ignacio Galán, chairman of IBERDROLA, in an event also attended by the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Ángel María Villar, and the coach of the national side, Vicente del Bosque, presented each of the winning team’s players with a watch, fulfilling the promise he made to them at the beginning of the tournament if they reached the final.
During his speech, Galán expressed his pleasure at being once again in the company of the world champions. “I remember the day I visited you at your training facilities in Potchefstroom. It was the night before the match against Chile, a match that was key to your ambitions. You were all very focused, but one of you, Sergio (Ramos), gave a master class in his habitual dodges ¬– this time dialectic – to extract a promise from me: a watch for each of you if you got to the final. And not only did you get to the final, you won the entire championship”.
Continuing, he said: “because our company always makes good on its promises, we here are today to give each of you this commemorative gift. The watch is a limited edition, numbered Franck Muller watch, with the World Cup engraved on the face and your name and shirt numbers on the back, along with the RFEF and IBERDROLA logos”.
