THE IBERDROLA TEAM SEEKS TO SOLIDIFY ITS LEADERSHIP DURING THE SOTOGRANDE CUP OF THE EUROPEAN SOTO RACE
The fourth and penultimate race of the Soto 40 European Championship
- The team lead by José María Torcida reaches the waters of Cadiz as championship leaders with a 15-point advantage over the team classified in second place
- Agustín Zulueta points out that: “Sotogrande is important for us to regain confidence in the boat and its fine tuning”
The IBERDROLA Team led by Agustín Zulueta faces the start of the fourth race of the Soto 40 European Championship, to be celebrated in Sotogrande between 10 and 13 August, with the double objective of achieving victory in the waters of Cadiz and thereby maintain its 15-point overall advantage in the competition over the boat classified second, the Alegre, the team of which is led by Andy Soriano.
The green boat, led by Pichu Torcida - two-time world champion skipper of the J80 - arrives at Sotogrande seeking to get even after its second place last August in the thirty-first edition of the Copa del Rey Sailing Race held in Palma, at which the green team barely missed victory during the last race by one disadvantage point against the winner, Alegre.
In this regard, Agustín Zulueta highlights the team's level its first year competing, which results in: “a fiercely disputed championship in which we have won a different boat each race”.
Given this, Zulueta stresses: “Sotogrande is important for us to regain confidence in the boat and its fine tuning. We are aware that Sotogrande is the site of the most difficult regattas of the entire circuit, but we have an advantage in that our sailor Juan Luis Páez is perfectly familiar with the currents of the straight, which a priori makes us confide in our possibilities”.
The fourth race of the Soto 40 European Championship will have seven teams, including the new Ceuta Sailing Team, which will participate aboard the Soto 40 XXII.
The grand finale and decisive event of the European circuit's champion will be held in Valencia, specifically at the Port America's Cup between 19 and 22 September, the qualifications for which will have a double value.
